Last week I went to Bristol Fashion week on
behalf of Whatson Bristol Magazine. Here's what I wore and a snap with the show's presenters
celebrity hair dresser Andrew Barton and ITV's Mark Heyes. I've been going to
Bristol Fashion Week for years as Bristol's my hometown, but it was extra special for me this
time as I got to interview the lovely Mark and Andrew! I had such a lovely day,
upon arrival we were greeted with champagne and cupcakes, courtesy of M&S,
then saw several scenes featuring fabulous A/W Fashion, there's a few snaps of
my favourite looks below! I made good use of
my fashion show vouchers at The Mall Cribbs Causeway,
having a look around the shops and claiming my free glass of Prossecco at
Carluccios! After watching them numerous times on the catwalk it was such a pleasure to meet Mark and Andrew, they were so lovely and even complimented my outfit! All in all I had a fabulous time, I hope you guys enjoy reading the interview.
What I'm wearing:
Shades - Ray Flector
Shirt - Zara
Skirt - River Island
Belt - Primark
Shoes & Bag - Topshop
What were your favourite sets from the show?
Mark: I’m loving the Downton themed set
Andrew: Downton Abbey has really made an influence this
season, it’s quite chic so we’re liking that one.
M: The way it’s been done on the catwalk as well is really
nice, Louis Vuitton had an amazing train set as their main feature at Paris
Fashion Week, similar to how we did it here! Downton’s quite a big look, as
well as the town and country looks we saw at Burbery show, like the M&S
set.
A: I also like really pretty things, so I loved the Alice
Temperly collection from John Lewis, it’s so beautiful especially the way they
move down the catwalk.
What are the key trends we need to be thinking about this
season?
M: Purple is the biggest colour at the moment, it seemed to
be everywhere and its also a really flattering colour as well. There are also
lots of berry tones around if you aren’t a fan of purple, like the gorgeous
Mulberry we’ve just seen on the catwalk. There’s heritage, town and country
looks with lots of tweed and animal jumpers. Also for autumn winter there’s
lots of florals, we saw lots of designers do it, it’s a nice transition from
spring summer with more sultry colours and darker base tones. Another key look
is 60’s, with dogtooth prints, swing coats and pops of red.
And Andrew what are the key hair trends for AW?
A: There’s lots of exciting stuff this season, more so than
there’s been for a long time. Versace saw very short, edgy cropped fringes,
quite dramatic, a cool trend for more daring people! Dip-dyeing has carried on
form spring summer, I can see you’re rocking it too! We saw it at Jean Paul
Gaultier and Prada. There’s really edgy and exciting colours as well this
season, but we’re also returning to glorious 40’s! With wartime rolls, finger waves and roller
sets it’s quite glamorous with a vintage and retro feel.
Any tips for keeping our hair healthy for the winter?
A: Yes the winter really does give our hair a battering, not
just the outside it’s the central heating that can really dry the skin and hair
so I’m always a great advocate of deep conditioning treatments, pamper yourself
and sit in the bath with a face and hair mask on and be religious with it, at
least once a week. The Andrew Barton SOS range at Asda is really good at doing
that!
What high street store do you think is best following high
fashion/designers?
M: M&S Limited collection this year, their Geometric
print suits are very similar to Prada, also with computer generated images like
Mary Katranzou, H&M have got some brilliant pieces in as well, their trend
section is great and they're got some very Celiné-esque coats with no collar as
well as peplum lines. Oasis also have a new designer in and there’s some great
military dresses and coats similar to Victoria Beckham, who’s becoming quite an
influential designer.
Bristol Fashion Week is always a success and you guys come
back every year, but do you get to see much of Bristol whilst you’re here? Do you have any
favourite places and what do you think of the style here?
M: I love Bristol , I’ve
always said I’d live here if I didn't live in London ! When me and Andrew were training for
the marathon in spring summer we got to see a lot more of Bristol ,
along the downs and around Clifton
its beautiful. I’m also obsessed with with the resturaunt Raj Put, it has the
best curry I’ve ever tasted! So yeah I’m a big fan of Bristol .
A: And I’d love to open a salon in Bristol , partly because the people are so
trend conscious and fashionable and care about the way they look.
Do you have any tips for staying on trend on a budget this
season?
M: The prices are getting lower and lower, everyone on the
high street is competing with each other at the moment. You just need to be
careful where you spend your money, I see your wearing a denim shirt and I
wouldn’t say £50 would be too much for that because its something you’ll wear
again and again, where as things like animal jumpers are mini trends and will
be out by Christmas. So really highlight the trends you want to go for and
spend spend money on those great basics and keep it down to a minimum on high fashion.
And if you had to pick key item from the show for AW what
would it be?
A: The black lace gown by Alice Temperley, it’s just
stunning!
M: For me its got to be the Geometric-Print suit from the
limited collection at M&S.
Have either of you got any other projects coming up that
you’d like to tell us about?
M: I’m very busy with ITV at the moment, we’re the new
Daybreak, there’s more and more fashion on there at the moment we’re really
upping our game on that.
A: I’m working on a style documentary with the BBC,
hopefully that’ll be out next year and we’ve just launched our new range of
hair tools at Argos
for Christmas, they’re bright purple with diamanté they’re fabulous!
That amazing geometric print suit and winter florals at M&S
Cute dresses at Lipsy!
Just my luck, camera decides to misbehave just as the JC's come down the catwalk!
Part of the awesome finale!
