With new SS17 collections dropping left right and centre and Instagram feeds full of jet-setting internet friends who are sunning it up in Bali or Tulum, it's certainly easy to forget we're actually smack bang in the middle of winter here in the UK. I'm guilty of already ordering my first bikini of the year (I blame you, Tash Oakley) and scouring Pinterest and Instagram for inspiration on the years coming trips. Meanwhile, outside its bloody arctic.
Temperatures seem to have taken a turn for the worst, during a recent late night Uber right my driver told me it was -5! So as much as I'm ready for spring, it's all about knitwear and coats for a little bit longer. I've also got myself into the bad habit of living in nothing but jeans, so to spruce up this jumper-jacket combo I pulled out one of last season's favourite hero pieces – the metallic pleated skirt.
This little number was one of my best purchases last season and one of those effortless pieces that instantly adds some dimension to any outfit and totally transformed this look when I swapped out my beloved skinny jeans. Yes, metallics were a huge trend for AW but don't pack them away just yet. They're a brilliant way to brighten up winter layers and of course, give a nod to the 80's trend which is going to be absolutely huge this season thanks to Saint Laurent and Gucci's SS17 collections.
What are your tips for staying stylish in cold weather? Leave me a comment below and as always, thanks for reading.
Shop the look: Miss Selfridge knit, Dorothy Perkins jacket, River Island boots and skirt (v similar, now £30), F21 bag, Timex watch, Missoma necklace
