Hi friends! It's been a while. A whole month even, how did that happen? Possibly the longest ever without posting since I started this little corner of the internet. If you've been following me on Instagram (and if not why not?! @luciagrace) you'll know I've been keeping myself very busy on the travel front.
After my return from backpacking Bali for 3 weeks, in no less than 24 hours in the UK I hopped on a plane to Barcelona for a long weekend of fun with my best friend and her family, shortly followed by a spontaneous few days in Heidelberg, Germany. Whilst I have a literal boat-load of content from Bali to share with you guys (I legit don't even know where to start!) and some exciting stories to tell from Germany, today's post is all about that beautiful weekend in the Barcelona sunshine and my favourite parts of the gorgeous city.
I'm not sure why I'd never visited this Spanish city before, seeing as it's so easily accessible from the UK in a swift two-hour flight. My only run-in was the airport and train station last summer before and after Benicassim festival which was a mighty stressful experience including delays, missed trains and near missed flights that I daren't get into! So I guess surprised isn't the right word, more I was delighted to have discovered the city properly and of course, as I tend to do, fall a little bit head over heels for the place.
Charming narrow streets, laundry filled rustic balconies and all-round breathtaking architecture hit me as soon as we made our way to the apartment in El Born. This area actually turned out to be one of my favourite places in the city, littered with local bakeries, coffee shops and a tonne of boutiques, restaurants and bars so cool they rivalled the hip hangouts of Shoreditch. Tucked away from the craziness of the Ramblas and busy shopping areas yet still pulsing with a cool energy, it was the perfect spot for a weekend away.
In the few days we were there, we did a few of the touristy things including the Sagrada Familia (breathtaking) and Park Güell which was an artsy Instagram dream. We spent a day at Barcelona beach which was really busy but still beautiful and of course, ate a lot of good food and drank a lot of good sangria! I'd booked a later flight home than the rest so had another whole day to myself exploring the city and doing a bit of shopping (if you haven't been to a Spanish Zara store, you need to get on that) and caught up over a few (too many) rosés at Soho House with the absolute hun Audrey from Frassy.
Rather than go on for several more paragraphs (as we all know I like to do), I thought I'd do a short round-up of some of my favourite spots I discovered during the trip so that if you're visiting BCN this summer too (you really should) you can check them out too!
